14. In the night

For the past three nights running, in my dreams, I have had a visitor. On each occasion, I have gone to bed in peace and comfort. Despite this, three times, I have woken with the sense that a battle has been raging. A battle between the light and the dark…

… In my dreams, something is stirring. This something is unsettling, yet incredibly subtle. There is another presence in the room and it hovers at the foot of the bed. This is a very black presence, as if something unholy is trying to creep into the atmosphere - a dark and furtive spiritual force that lurks and wants to take hold and strangle. As it surreptitiously approaches, a much larger and far more powerful being of light immediately arrives and without question or deliberation, literally decimates the striving grasp of this malevolent force. A greater power totally destroys this potentially destructive presence. What comes is an instant protection and a reassuring sense of being unequivocally guarded. The unquenchable power of this light makes the dark presence seem so pitiful in contrast. What is this being of light? Is it an angel? Is it Jesus? Is it the spirit of God Himself? Such questions are too confusing, but something is supremely clear; the light brings safety. And a violent end to the dark that tries to grasp a foothold.  This mighty force was on high alert and ready to descend in an instant…

Waking to reflect on the meaning of these dreams, there’s a calm sense of being sheltered by an almighty shield of love. Could it be that even in dreamland, God watches over and protects? When awake, it’s possible to consciously ward off the lies, the stranglehold of fear and the grip of darker thoughts. How incredible to think ,hat even in slumber, whilst asleep and unable to take authority over those evil spirits, God steps in the gap and fiercely does it for me. I am protected, I am loved, and even in my sleep, I am safe.

The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade.
